Encryption research

Dev Updates Mar 17, 2026 1 min read

Jay has been researching various encryption methods to make sure your data is safe on your device and in our infrastructure. We want you’re data as safe and secure as possible but also want to deliver on features like categorizing transactions or emailing you monthly reports.

Think of your financial data like a letter. When it gets to our servers, we lock it in a box with a unique key that only belongs to you. We don’t hold a copy of that key, so even though the box sits on our server, we can’t open it. The only exception is tools like our categorization feature. Those tools are given a very specific, limited permission to open your box, do their job, and nothing else. They can’t share what they saw, and we can’t use them to go snooping.

So while your data lives on our servers, it’s never just sitting out in the open for us to read.
